Viber is a messenger that is as fast and easy as texting, which uses your phone’s internet connection (whether Wi-Fi or your mobile data) to let you send text messages, share photos & videos, add stickers, or make voice and video calls. I can’t say it dominates the social market yet it literally wins tremendous fans even in competing with the powerful messaging app WhatsApp. Different from the WhatsApp that keeps a copy of your chat history in the server or phone, Viber can’t automatically backup the messages, photos, videos, and contacts.
You should manually do a Viber backup via email in case of data loss. With backup, you’ll be rid of a hassle to restore Viber messages on Android one day.

Turn on the Viber app on your Android mobile phone, select “More Options” > “Settings” > “Calls and messages” > “Email message history”. Once the backup file is created, send it to an email which you want to use for the backup. Since the backed up chat messages cannot be directly restored to your Android device, you should log into the email account to download the backup files.
For the other case that you don’t get a backup for the Viber messages, I would like to suggest you using a third party software like Gihosoft Viber data recovery program (Mac version: Android data recovery for Mac)to retrieve your important chat messages and the attachment. The tool is compatible with myriads of the Android phone of different brands like Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge/S6/S5/Note 7/Note 5, HTC One A9/M9/M8, LG G5/G4, Google Nexus 6P/5X, Sony Xperia, Motorola and Huawei.
Tutorial for it:
Step1. Download the tool and run it, then select “Viber” to proceed
Remember to enable the debugging mode on your mobile and grant the authority to the software for accessing the phone. A tip for the user with Android 4.2 phone: Enter "Settings" < Click "About Phone" < Tap "Build number" for several times until getting a note saying "You are under developer mode", then go back to "Settings" < Click "Developer options" < Check "USB debugging".
Step3. Preview and recover the Viber files
After previewing the scanned Viber files, you are supposed to restore them to a folder on PC.
Note:
Actually, once your Viber messages, video, photos or contacts are lost, all you should do is immediately stop using your phone or set it into Airplane mode in case that the deleted files got overwritten. Remember: the more you use the phone, the more it overwrites the data.
