When you make a switch from the old Android phone to a new one, you might need to transfer your WhatsApp messages to the new Android mobile. Using Google Drive would be a better option compared with the local backup.
Local backups will run automatically every day at 2 a.m. and save your database in a file on the phone itself. If you want to move data via this way, you’ll need to find the /sdcard/WhatsApp/ folder that is used to store your WhatsApp data and copy it to the new Android smartphone. However, with Google Drive, you are rid of such hassle, only if you sync the data to it, you’re allowed to restore the WhatsApp messages along with other data to the new phone.
How to retrieve WhatsApp messages, videos, and photos from Google Drive?
You should make sure that your WhatsApp data synced to Google Drive and Google services must be installed on your phone.

Note:
If you fail to create a backup, please check if there is enough available space on Google Drive; if you can’t recover data from Google Drive backup, please check whether your phone have enough room to restore it. Either you perform the backup or restore it, please keep your phone full-charged and connected with Wi-Fi other than mobile data.
